Something special
admin 3 years 3 yearsCard collectors - you heard it here first, our next major card event is coming!
Over the coming four weeks we are releasing ~200 new cards across the site. We're also highlighting some rarer cards from older sets as we celebrate the upcoming release of the 50th card set.
There are more details to follow, of course. But I thought you'd like this sneak peek, as well as find this promo code which might help you out TOWARDS50 - redeem it on your Rewards page. (Edit: this code expires as the event starts)
Plus, we're looking for requests! Which cards would you like to see featured on bingo boards, or in daily / thumb hunt rewards? Let us know in this thread - we'll be including some of your suggestions.
Keep an eye on this thread as we reveal further details leading into and during the event.

Our first update are changes to the Bingo board that have gone live today.
We've shifted the likelihood and value of certain space requirements to create a more dynamic play style - you'll find more challenging spaces more often and this will result in more high-value rewards.
Due to there being more regular high-value rewards, we have introduced a 6th tier of rewards for Bingo - much like we have in the Dailies (note their prize pools are not necessarily the same).

50? Damn. We went from 19 sets between 2014-2017, to having at least 31 new ones between 2018 to the end of this year.

Sounds like fun to keep everyone happy. Requests...? Hmmmmm .... As someone who wasn't collecting cards back when the race sets (3 and 9, I think?) were done, plus the 2015 V8 tracks (set 11), I would like to see those being slightly more "available." At the same time, I get that they are a nice reward for those who were part of the card collectors from the beginning.
Ultimately, I just like cards that I don't have being "available", so it sounds like by releasing another 200-odd cards, I'm going to have plenty of chance to get new cards. Happy days.

This all sounds absolutely splendid..200 cards or so to chip away at...As for Bingo prizes or Dailies rewards i wonder if it is possible to see more of the coupon type rewards crop up? Maybe like a C coupon reward that you could go and exchange for any C card from any of the sets..then obviously a U R and M coupon for the Uncommon/ Rare / Mega Rare cards..So one prize coupon would get you one card you are keenest to add to your sets....I think X cards should remain awfully tricky to track down.

Blimey, six new sets, I can't keep up :o
I think many people (including me) would be happy to see the N cards from sets 3/9/11 be prizes, as they seemed to disappear from the TBT bingo boards a while back. Also, maybe some inverses that would save a great deal of trades trying to get, like the multi parters?
Everything else I don't mind being patient for :)

Great ! Love it already :p Can't wait to start collecting !
Since I started collecting from day 1 I don't really have a preference or request for older cards like some of my colleagues, I use Throwback Thursdays and legacy boosters for that occasion :p But a period of 3 months is rather lengthy before I can put my Multi-part cards to use again. Ah well, one must plan carefully and think things through before playing those cards, right ? ;)
Is there a chance we could include the cardsets which are labelled "Bingo Prizes" or Unusual ways" to the boosters ? I know we have cardsets strictly for Boosterpacks, so no problem if that can't be changed :)
A very slight increase of a chance to obtain an X-card perhaps ? And it's been ages since I've had my last coupon... For 4 weeks I had ticked all of the boxes on my Dailies and 4 times in a row I received a legacy booster. But last week I was rewarded with an X-card from F1 1982 cardset, so very pleased with that :D
Question to FredJimBob : With the new sets coming up soon, will you be opening some of your boosters now ? ;) I have around 130, but he has 495 of them, ladies and gentlemen :D I have 3 or 4 sets where I just need a couple of cards to complete it, so please help me out lol. Anyone who's willing to trade, I'm looking forward to your offers ;)
Big thank you for the promo code btw ! Really curious what to expect and can't wait to get going !

Would it be possible to have older versions of cards be available, maybe as Hidden cards (Eg. Kyle Busch in NASCAR Legends and Lewis Hamilton in F1 Champs) if the old ones are saved somewhere?

One further question / observation - in the bingo, how are the Mega Rare cards calculated? Quite often, I seem to get a run of the same card (e.g. 10.40 recently, and the 13.2 James Hunt one was popular for a while!) It feels like they don't change each time a MR is generated. Is this just my imagination and bad luck, or, if not, would it be possible to create a more randomised process? (I think it's similar for others when there is, for example, "Inverse" as a prize, or when we used to get Common or Uncommon as prizes, but I just notice on the MRs as most cards I need are either MR or XR!!)

The prizes denoted like that 'Mega Rare' or 'Inverse' are automatically rotated regularly. CardSpy might be able to help you determine how often, as well as why that particular one is presently featured.
They are not random for each reward, but when they are rotated, that process is random.

In the words of Inspector Gadget: "Wow'zuhrs, Penny! That there DarcyF1 keeps coming up with better improvements every time!" (not a strict quote).
I know I've been trying to create a LegendaryTouringCars card pack, but have been having as much success as a tailor in a nudist campsite ... (have candidates, but that just about sums it up). Anyone willing to help me out/share credits (even if only to make life more interesting for Darcy when he tries to squeeze in the usernames in the pack header section)? The responsibilities as I understand them, are: collecting the correct images (are there copyright concerns?) and descriptions, structuring and organising the pack (grading C's, U's, R's, M's and X's), creating a template, combining template with image and details, packing and shipping. Did I miss something? Volunteers?

Is a covered card set already in the Bingo Board? Sometimes I see a field without a reward on it. And I know that I got one of that fields, but couldn't find something on the reward page. Will that secret uncover itself, or is that something else?

That would just be a bug. We did see it a couple of days ago when tier 6 rewards were added to Bingo and one of those rewards (coupons) were new to Bingo which confused the display code. This issue occurred again during Throwback Thursday as that event didn't have any tier 6 rewards assigned - this has also been corrected.

Awesome news! Collecting cards is one of the nicest features in the website and having a larger variety is awesome! CARDBOARD did a superb job with 1982 Card Set and I really hope to see lots of new works from him.
I've seen there are new cards in the "d" cardset, are them going to be available soon?
Also, I hate myself! Came here too late and missed the redeem code before the event started. At least I can grab the 2nd one.
Thanks DarcyF1, day by day this place is getting more and more awesome.

Towards 50 - Week 2
From August 7 through August 12 (GMT) our second week of the event will be live! You can expect to see another new card set launched and it will be dropping around the site throughout the week and ongoing. Set #46 remains in play on the bingo board and its joined by Card Pieces - making their debut (in their entirety), including our recently released Silverstone set. It's a great week to complete a multi-part card, especially if you have inverse pieces.
You'll continue to see special cards dropping from the Visit DarcyF1 daily quest throughout the week. We have made a change that takes affect from today in regards to these special daily distribution cards. Typically, users do not receive a reward when their Visits streak starts from 1 day-in-a-row following the completion of a 7-day streak. This prevented users from receiving the daily card on that day even though their total streak might be in the hundreds. The change means that users who are back on day 1, but have an ongoing streak greater than 7 will still receive the special card as a 0-star reward. Users who don't have an active streak but commence a new streak will not receive the 1-day visit streak reward - it only applies to users who have completed a weekly streak and are commencing a new week. There will be no additional 0-star rewards outside of these special distributions. The change kicks in today as it means that all users with lengthy streaks equally missed one day AND it coincides with our first Throwback Thursday distribution that I didn't want anyone to miss :)
You can start off collecting your new set with a hidden card by redeeming this promo code T50W2 on your Rewards page (during the event window only).

From August 14 through August 19 (GMT) our third week of the event will be live! You can expect to see another new card set launched (#48) and it will be dropping around the site throughout the week and ongoing. This set builds upon last weeks by celebrating the F1 grid of 2004. We're going to also jump a decade forward by bringing sets #5 & #6 to the Bingo board, the 2014 F1 and V8 Supercars grids - two legacy sets available throughout this week of the event.

Cool - enjoying both the two new sets of cards, reminding me of one of the most enjoyable years of F1 and one of the worst, in my humble opinion. I'll never forget how disappointed I was after the first couple of races in 04 when no-one was able to challenge the ferrari after 2003 had been so competitive (even at the end after the whole Michelin tyres issue.) This set is the more exciting than most of that season....!

It's the final week as we countdown towards 50 card sets!
From August 21 through August 26 (GMT) our fourth and final week of the event will be live! You can expect to see our 49th card set launched and it will be dropping around the site throughout the week and ongoing. Our bingo boards will be RAGING! With practically every normally-obtainable card ever released being available throughout the week, you'll be finding nothing but card rewards on the board all week. That's 1,693 cards available as Bingo prizes, 1,530 of those will be available in Inverse colours - some for the first time!
For the last time this event, you'll see special cards dropping from the Visit DarcyF1 daily quest throughout the week. Be sure to register a visit each day to claim your guaranteed reward.
You can start off collecting your new set with a hidden card by redeeming this promo code T50W4 on your Rewards page (during the event window only).
Stay tuned here as we'll announce the release date for our 50th set during the last week of the event.

Another great set. 2005 was, in my view, the start of a run of good years of F1 so it's a nice trip down memory lane agin! I'm really enjoying the early stages of the bingo board. I've already knocked off a couple of the obscure thumb hunt 1982 cards that I only had in inverse.

A bug with the Bingo boards has been corrected. Some 2-star rewards were being displayed as 1-star rewards, and there were no actual 1-star rewards available. All players who had played to a row missing its 1-star reward will find their previously earned rewards on their Rewards page.

I had a problem when redeeming the promo card. It gave me a message that I was over the limit of the card and I was awarded a token instead, when I look into my gallery the card isn't there as well. Anyone else had the same issue?

Wow - what a busy four weeks! With four new card sets dropping, Bingo boards that just kept on giving, and special daily distributions through the Daily Visit quest; it's been pretty full on. So, sit back, enjoy the break. Everything card-collecting is back to normal business.. for now.
On Tuesday, September 1st (GMT), our 50th card set will launch with 100+ cards. This set will be available by browsing videos related to the card's subject and be available for a limited time, initially. You'll find yourself diving back into the history books to explore content from 2005 to 2016 to complete this set.
A new month also means the prize pools will be shuffled so keep an eye out for refreshed prizes across Bingo, ThumbHunt and Dailies.
Thanks to all who participated during our crazy month of card collecting events - I hope you each found something you had been hunting for :)

Thanks for the event - it was really enjoyable. I could gripe about the cards I didn't manage to get during the last week but instead I'll celebrate finally finishing the F1 Weird set (thanks Jeroen) and getting a lot of missing cards elsewhere. I also liked the fact it told you which cards you were playing for.

Now there is a chance to breathe, I will miss the guaranteed card daily gifts, but the couple of N card gaps I was able to fill were quite fun 🙂
It sounds like the set will be befitting of the special #50 designation, too ☺️
If you need ideas for what to substitute for new prizes, I can submit a list of the cards I need? 😜

Indeed! Our 50th set (#45) is every GP2 podium finisher. You'll find the GP2 champions as Mega-rares. 102 drivers, all cards discover-able by browsing to related videos - let the hunt begin! Hope it answers the question of why wa

Excellent - I'm looking forward to having a go at collecting the new set as well, and I see that set 46 is now included in the Thumb Hunt rewards, so a good chance for me to knock a few of them off as well.
So that just leaves one question - how can we track down set 42 now? I have a few gaps that I'd like to fill... although I suspect I'll never track down Mario in a Williams!

We've shifted the ThumbHunt rarities this month to better align the reward value to the regularity that they appear. Small changes at the mega/extreme end of the spectrum, with bigger shifts at the common/uncommon end.
This has enabled 6-star rewards to be available through ThumbHunt, but with very low odds of appearing, about 1.5%.

Speaking of which, I was wondering two things recently: what subject is present in the most cards, and which is the most prominent not yet featured? There's Whincup, who I think is up to 13 cards now, and then there's someone like Radisich, who had decent success in both the BTCC and Supercars, but thanks to a puncture in the '99 Bathurst 1000, is still waiting :P

Serious question. How are we meant to get Extreme Rare cards from Booster pack only sets? Question raised from the very nice looking set 52 (Also relates to both WRC Sets).

So, out of curiosity, I did some calculations, and based on the total event time of 29 days, 16 hours, 45 minutes (equal to 2,565,900 seconds) and the first 'window' length of 9 hours, 54 minutes, 2 seconds (equal to 35,642 seconds), the amount of 'windows' is equal to 2,565,900/35,642 = 71.99 = ~72 windows.
But, there are currently 73 driver cards, so my question is, which driver isn't going to be included? Will it just be Pagenaud?

Right, so Bathurst concludes on December 5th and F1 2021 ends on December 12th in Abu Dhabi, so I'm guessing we'll have to wait a while for the cardsets to arrive. And what the big surprise on the site at the end of the year is, that's anyone's guess :p Hints are welcome, guys ! :D
Anyone working on a secret (card)project that will be launched soon ? ;)

Maybe I'm just blind, but I think card sets 59 and 60 haven't yet been released... so there must be something out there in development land. I've finally caught up on most of the sets that are out there still in circulation, but I'm not sure I'm ready for another one to come out just yet...!

Well i am flattered you thought of me but i should say that the upcoming hinted at activity will be a surprise for me too! I know not what awaits but the Williams hint would suggest the F1 team across the years
For what its worth i have done some work on two different card sets that are yet to see the light of day. Darcy will know doubt let me know if and when they might be appropriate to launch.
Much thought and planning goes into the releasing of sets through the year and whilst its very pleasing to see my efforts here on the screen i love seeing what other people conjure up in both card set themes and the design of the card itself..
Anyway hopefully many more cards and events are heading all of our ways into the years end and on in to 2022.

Thanks for the acknowledgement of Set 70...I am currently on two weeks holiday with the joy of somewhat intermittent internet,so to see the set live for the first time today was a surprise! I took 1970 as my starting point to include all IndyCar race winners and thought it appropriate to give the title winners an additional card to reflect that feat.As the 2022 season progresses I will of course generate a card for any"new" race winners..Who that might be who knows? McLaughlin or Grosjean would seem most likely I think
Set 71 also gets a big thumbs up and thank you from me...Wrc 1997 is a great set and as you know i love a set that threads together a story....Thanks again PHB

Goodness Gracious! When i get back from buying a lottery ticket i shall have to start work on card 70.154! Really pleased for Mclaughlin though and if he ever looks at the Indycard Winners set then i would think he be chuffed to be part of such an amazing group of names and history

Set numbers are designated to card designers when their set idea is approved, so they're not always released in order. Sometimes our excellent designers take some time to produce a set, sometimes I'm scheduling its launch to avoid clashing with other sets, or aligning to important real-life dates etc.
F1 2022 card set is coming - it won't be this coming weekend though, as I'm away. Expect it between the 23rd-27th.

Aw Shucks..I do indeed keep noodling away on card sets in my spare time.
For what it worth i enjoy putting the Card sets together and as long as the users of this site are happy with the results then i am content to keep having a crack at coming up with new sets.
I sometimes think that Darcy must roll his eyes and take a deep breath when i message him to say "how about this for a set" but he has always given me a freehand to go ahead with all the ideas that you now see that are live on the site.
When i first had a go at putting a set together (set 40 GP Winners) i did not have a clue really on the computer skills required and i learnt as i went along and now when i look at that set i feel it is incomplete and could be much improved(design wise) to be comparable to Set 70 the Indycar Winners set. I would be happy to start Set 40 from scratch all over again and expand it to include every GP winner to the current day and with a completely new design.
This might be complicated from Darcy admin side as many of us already have Set 40 cards collected and so i dont know if it is viable?
Maybe in the forum here my fellow card regulars can comment on whether a new improved Set 40 is something of interest or otherwise.
I do have other card set ideas that i can continue to offer and until Darcy will be offered them as and when apprropriate
My hat is off to anyone who puts a set together , i do the best i can with what skills i have learnt to design the cards but other members here have some great knowledge to build sets...
Finally to anyone thinking of trying to build a set i would say have a go...I started with a toe in the water at Set 40 and then got braver with Set 43 and now i am very happy with the most recent sets...I hope you are all enjoying Set 75...

Firstly, just adding my compliments and thanks regarding the latest sets. The latest set coincides with me being free in the evenings to do the thumb hunts, so I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge of collecting it. I think set 40 holds up well but I'm sure as the creator you will always be more "self-critical." I could be wrong but I think that, when cards are changed (e.g. Hamilton's F1 Champion card, Castroneves Indy 500 winner) then the people holding it simply get the new version so I assume that would be the case if you redesigned set 40? Just a suggestion, but perhaps you could add in all the GP Winners who retired from 2000 to 2010 (or even up to date as you suggest?)
As far as creating my own, I did try noodling around with the template builder and got lost. I keep meaning to give it a go again but then a new card set and thumb hunt appears...
Anyway, just to repeat that it's a massive thanks from me to all of the card creators - I was about to list you all but there's too many and I worry that I'd miss one of you...!

Set 78 is a fine looking and worthy subject for a card collection, some design elements in there that i would struggle to construct in my card building knowledge!
It been a busy time for new sets seeing the light of day...
