Spa2019 Race 2 Kreijne Kreuger Oosten Huge Crash Red Flag Aftermath
I was Joshua Kreuger's engineer that race and this was a horrific accident in the exact same spot where Antoine Hubert was killed three weeks before. This video does not show that Toine Kreijne was bounced back on the track in identical fashion to Hubert and was hit at almost full speed on the side as was Hubert. It was pure luck his injuries were as limited as they were. The cause was the tow hook on the front of our car. Toine got just a little bit loose going up, causing him to lose a very small amount of speed, but just enough to allow Joshua to get a little closer and with a bit more speed. Then Toine started going back to his racing line and Joshua moved with him to the right, but by the time Joshua was about to leave the track, he realised Toine hadn't seen him and before he could react, the back of Toine's car found the tow hook on ours and that was that. From next race on the tow hook was no longer allowed to exceed the front bumper.2 months

Thruxton2008 Race 1 Pit Lane Chaos
Never seen this before. If this had happened in our races (DNRT), the riot act would have been used to smack people over the head repeatedly (likely after being weighted with bricks too). Then again, during the Historic Grand Prix at Zandvoort this year we also had an embarrassing first: someone hit the safety car in the last race of the day, resulting in it being red flagged first and then prematurely being ended all together. That particular 'individual' had been trailing the safety car for almost two laps already before losing the plot.3 months

Thanks for the upload! I suspected it was Pieter Bikker (whom I have worked with before) and it is. Shame about the damage, but by the looks of it not the first impact. Left-hand side shows evidence of contact before the right-hand side does a hold-my-beer. Hope he was okay and the damage not too disastrous. 2 years

It's not not just GT's or single-seaters: I had my worst race as an engineer there a month after Anthoine Hubert was killed when my driver had a coming together with fellow Mazda Cup driver Toine Kreijne. Toine bounced off the barriers at the same place (righthandside) before ending up at the exact the same point as Anthoine. As with Anthoine, he too then suffered a very hard side-impact from someone still going at near full-tilt due to being unsighted. My driver saw it happen in his rearview mirror and was completely in tatters. That race was red-flagged and all drivers had to line up on SF and stay in there car. Great idea except for the minor inconvenience that my driver is severely distraught and I am trying to calm him down and find out if the other driver is okay. Guess what; you can't get any information what-so-ever. Toine's own team was in the dark and Race Control are not allowed to share anything with anyone. So while the medical team is fully focused on the extraction, I have nothing to calm my driver down and can't even walk over to him to give him a hug and/or just sit with him. That's just me and my driver. Now imagine it's your driver who has gone off! My team boss has been there and that is even worse. The way I figure it; when you get hurt, it hurts. When someone you care about gets hurt, the agony can be worse than being hurt yourself. We were lucky: Toine only broke his collar bone, cracked a few vertebrae and suffered a severe concussion. And you know what? I have yet to meet a driver who wants the layout of that corner to change!2 years
