According to the Motorsport Memorial page, he suffered a fractured pelvis, neck and chest injuries in the crash and went into cardiac arrest on the track. I wonder if he still would've had the heart attack even with the HANS device

This is why the HANS device is one of the most, if the the most important safety innovations in racing. It should be a requirement everywhere. R.I.P.

@zaggi222 Even today the Hans device isn't mandatory everywhere, there are still some really small series where drivers didn't have to put on the hans device, so i'm not surprised. Of course that's a really dumb thing to do, but people does dumb stuff all the time, sadly.

I agree, sometimes the simplest accidents can be fatal... but I do not know why they run without hans device, I think it was obligation by FIA even for the smallest categories in the world... @mattia

@zaggi222 Nah, he had seatbelts. The impact is more hard than you think, he went from 150 km/h to 0 immediatly. Without the Hans device you could suffer some severe injuries, or like in this video, even death.

Probably was not even using seatbelt or it failed, I'm not an expert in safety but I think even without hans device he could survive this accident. R.I.P
