more or less pack racing is the most exciting to watch yes, and as long as nobody gets hurt, bring it on! :-)

Totally agree with you neteye. I was maybe a bit hasty in commenting to Nascar47fan that he mend the flipping part but drivers were indeed complaining about the close pack racing and that there was no way out when things starting to go wrong. But to be honest, the flipping of these cars began when Indycar after Dan Wheldon death decided to give the cars a totally new earo design so cars could no more using each other's wheels as ramps. Anyway .. for us watchers and fans the close racing is exciting but the drivers hate it risking their lives each time in these kind of close racing.

I think you got one thing wrong woudys, the drivers complain about the pack racing, not so much about the flipping. all the other spins were no-flip-spins, so i think it is not too much of a problem. it definetely is when it happens, but it happes rarely. your idea with the collapsing wing when the car runs backwards sounds good though! but the pack racing is what made this race dangerous, as a small wiggle was always enough to collide with others and crash (see sato/power). and with others close behind, the wheldon scenario with flying cars because of touching wheels or using others wheels as ramps is all the more close to happen.

It's just one of those things Indycar just can't control or speeds would be cut down dramaticaly to prevent flipping. These cars with these kind of speeds has a backwing with zero to nagative downforce, in other words when a car spins and gets turned around there is a possibility that the wing will act like a wing from a jet plane lifting the car instead of putting it downwards. I hope for the future that Indycar will overcome these kind of nagative crashes by developing a wing that would collapse when a car get turned around .. that would be the only way to prevent these kind of flips. As some other drivings discribed during and after the race it's just waiting for a similair crash that led to the death of Dan Wheldon. SICK.

I thought Indycar were trying to prevent these types of accidents with these cars?
