Thumb Hunt
Mrgem79td 6 years
ok quick question, im finding it hard to get some of these clues, even when it is so easy, the last one i had was v8 utes in a sand trap, 3mins to find yet i searched v8 utes 96 videos and not 1 of them was the thumb nail. WHat am i doing wrong? Thanks for your help

From my experience thumb hunting i would say that the thumbnail shown has to marry up quite accurately with your search criteria.
So possibly using the v8 utes example you quoted then it might be that whilst the thumbnail shows a v8 ute in the sand you need to decide what "tags " might have been attached to the video..so you might search v8 ute sand or v8 ute spin or v8 ute off or v8 ute crash...The wording of your search has a huge impact on the video/thumbnails that crop up...Obviously the more precise/lucky you get with your search the better your chance of finding the thumbnail you want.
The more you know about the thumbnail you see the better..if you recognise the category..the circuit or of course the driver name that helps tremendously..
Occasionally you can get blindsided by odd things like say you know the thumbnail has a picture say of Craig Lowndes in it and nothing matches when you put Lowndes in the search...Then it might be that the thumbnail is something like say Hidden valley race 2 highlights..(something not Lowndes tagged specifically)
In short these are all things you learn with repeated trial and error on the thumbhunts and are also why the rewards mainly reflect the difficulty of identifying what crops up.
Hope that helps a little..

A very thorough explanation of the issues I have. The highlights one has stumped me in the past! Nothing more frustrating than the message saying « the thumb hunt for this video expired one minute ago... »

I also really struggle with the NASCAR and Turismo Carretera ones. But that’s because I don’t know anything about those series!!

Anything in the Turismo Carretera category should be a six star reward in triplicate!..On the positive side i have learnt how to spell Uruguay without thinking twice...

Thanks for that. It seems sometimes they should be easy but they aren't haha and you get like 3 mins to find a card.

I find it takes alot of videos now to get a hunt going. Before you could do 4 5 videos and you get a clue. Ive done 2 pages and still got no clue

I get the feeling that the odds vary based on events and so on. (Sometimes it’s announced as such by admin.) and some days I have good runs, others not!

I do find that a lot of the searches give me more like 8-12 minutes, which is usually enough if I know enough to narrow it down. If I’m just searching for « nascar crash » then even a couple of hours wouldn’t help me!!

This afternoon a thumb hunt which turned out to be Alonso in traffic had me scrambling through various descriptions and when the final thumbnail appeared it...it said expired by one second....the injustice of it ! I may well have to ask Darcy if i can half a prize.... The fun of it all will see me have another go at a thumbnail sooner rather than later.

One day in a thumb hunt, for me in that moment i suppost was very easy. The image appear a mclaren on bahrain and next to the mclaren were a poster that says Hamilton. But when I'm going to the videos there were only two and two weren't.Later I seqrch button and has one clip and that was. Very unlucky

Anyone else having trouble finding the good stuff? :s
Personally, I think it'd be cool to see a system where you picked your difficulty (risk v reward), but you only have the ability to 'give up' on a small number (like 3-5) of videos a day, so you couldn't endlessly miss the big ones without penalty ;)

Of course, that's just me, I'm sure others would hate it :P
