Thumb Hunts
John1504 2 yearsHi
It seems that the criteria for a Thumb Hunt clue have changed recently, although I'm not sure exactly when, which prompted a couple of questions. I think they might be of interest to others so hence am posting them in a thread. From what I have seen and read, clues appear to have become harder to locate but as I have not watched many videos lately, maybe that's just the impression I'm getting...
- apparently a video now becomes "locked" when a clue has been found. Is this user specific, or if one person finds a clue, does that "lock" the video for everyone?
- what is the rough probability of a clue dropping these days? Given the process appears to be getting harder, and some of the old hacks are being removed, it might be a good idea to make the drop probability a bit higher.
- would it be possible to have some kind of indicator that shows whether a video is locked or not? There are still a lot of videos that seem incompatible with the web player so I am sure a lot of people use more recent videos to search for clues. It would be good to know therefore whether a video is locked or not so you know whether you have a chance.
Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide!
Cheers

I'd certainly recommend familiarising yourself with the Quests Information page if you haven't already.
To respond to some more specific questions;
1. Game balancing is an ongoing activity, but the probability of finding a ThumbHunt clue has increased throughout this year.
2. ThumbHunt clues are individual to a user - your success does not affect anyone else's game.
3. The concept of 'locking' might be mistaken - once you have found a clue within a video, it will just take some time before a clue is hidden there again. So we wouldn't provide an indicator to say "this video has a clue hidden in it" or "this video doesn't have a clue hidden in it" as that would defeat the purpose of the game.

Thanks for the replies and the questions were after reading the Quests information. Also, yes, the way the video not having a clue was worded did not make it clear to me that this solely applied to each individual user. This does render the indicator irrelevant as my concern was that someone else might have found a clue in a video, meaning that no clue will appear again for, say, 24 hours, but individuals won't know this and could have been watching lots of videos with zero hope of a clue. (I wasn't suggesting to say that there is / is not a clue, just whether it was a possibility, but it's irrelevant given the second answer!)
Thanks for the clarifications!

the thumb hunts are a lot harder to find, I used to watch the same clip over and over with great success. Since the changes I have been using the random button in the videos. The most I am able to get in a day is about 5 clues, and I am lucky if I find the video after.
By the way, the random videos have been the same for years give or take a few.

i've only just started to get into these, not sure what the trigger is, just watching the video, for an amount of time or? do they have to be over 30 seconds in length or anything else besides not be a YT video or Fatal tagged etc.
Because currently my experience is i can watch 30-40 videos and i might get one clue, seems a bit rough,

When it comes to thumb hunts, I believe it’s random. If you go to the “Information” page, there is a section for rewards which shows the prizes available. Often I’ve found that Inverse Common and Inverse Uncommon are two of the most recurrent prizes because they are valued at 4 and 5 stars (I think) which seems to be a very regular prize and there are often a lot of them!
